Blood Orange Negroni
A negroni is a fine aperitif, but sometimes a longer drink is required. This retains the bitterness of a negroni, but tastes less alcoholic. Clearly containing all the ingredients of a negroni it isn’t actually any less alcoholic, but that’s part of the beauty of a good cocktail.
Ingredients:
- 1 measure Sipsmith’s Gin
- 1 measure red vermouth (e.g. Carpano Antica Formula)
- 1 measure Campari
- 2 measures blood orange juice
- Slice of orange
- Strip of lemon peel
- Orange bitters
A normal negroni should be stirred rather than shaken to prevent the ice breaking into shards and making the drink less clear. That is not a problem here as the blood orange juice is opaque. So it’s easier to make.
Shake the gin, red vermouth, Campari and blood orange juice over ice. Pour over a large ice cube in a tumbler, and garnish with the orange slice and lemon peel. Add a few drops of orange bitters. Drink, and then make another one.
